About Jen Hinst-White
My writing has appeared (or is forthcoming) in The Common, Big Fiction, The Missouri Review, The Southampton Review, Image Journal’s Good Letters, Cactus Heart, Print Oriented Bastards, Tight, The Bennington Review, and elsewhere. My poem “To the Pilot Bridegroom” won the 2013 Works & Days Psalm Translation Contest.
I earned my MFA in Writing and Literature (2012) at the Bennington Writing Seminars, where I was a Liam Rector Scholar. I studied with Sven Birkerts, David Gates, Alice Mattison, Rachel Pastan, Roland Merullo, and April Bernard.

I’ve supported my novel-writing habit by
- working as a peace-and-justice organizer in Washington, DC;
- starting a one-woman web design business;
- writing hundreds of anonymous weekly articles for the Bennington College website, and
- making art, fostering community and teaching at a funky nondenominational church.
I’m married to the talented and bearded Rob Hinst. We live with our five-year-old son Charlie and toddler Milo on Long Island.
